The Human Islet and Cellular Transplantation Facility

The Human Islet and Cellular Transplantation Facility (HICTF) is an FDA registered cGMP facility located in the UCSF Mission Center Building within the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

The facility has been manufacturing investigational cellular therapies for >20 years, supporting more than a dozen academic trials with experimental effector T cell (Teff), regulatory T cell (Treg), and islet cell therapies.

The facility was fully renovated in 2018 with ~8,500 sq. ft. of manufacturing cleanrooms, support areas, and a dedicated Process Development lab. The HICTF is directed by Dr. Brian Shy and supports the development and manufacturing of innovative cell therapy products within early-phase academic trials for UCSF investigators, collaborating institutions, and industry partners.
